Terms of Service
Effective and last updated:
1. Who we are and this agreement
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are an agreement between you and ScribeLoom (“ScribeLoom,” “we,” “us”). They cover the ScribeLoom website, apps, and related services (the “Service”). Our Privacy Policy and Refund & cancellation policy are part of these Terms.
You accept these Terms when you check the box agreeing to them, create an account, subscribe, or use the Service. If you don’t agree, don’t use the Service. You agree that we can give you notices and agreements electronically, including by email and in the Service.
2. Who can use the Service
You must be at least 18 years old and able to form a binding contract. You may not use the Service if you’re barred from doing so by the laws that apply to you. The Service is offered worldwide but run from the United States. You’re responsible for following the laws where you live.
3. Your account
- Give accurate information, including an email address you can receive mail at. Subscribing needs a verified email.
- An account is for one person. Keep your password secure and tell us at support@scribeloom.com if you think someone else is using your account. You’re responsible for activity on your account.
- Don’t create more than one account to get extra free books or to get around limits or a suspension. If you delete an account that used its free trial book, a new account with the same email won’t get another one.
4. The Service and AI-generated content
ScribeLoom uses artificial intelligence to write books, outlines, and chat replies from your requests, to draw book covers, and computer-generated voices to read chapters aloud. We use AI models from third parties (currently OpenAI’s GPT, xAI’s Grok, and Anthropic’s Claude, through Amazon Bedrock, and OpenAI’s image models for covers) and text-to-speech from Amazon Polly.
- AI output can be wrong. It may be inaccurate, incomplete, out of date, offensive, or similar to other text. Learning books are not professional advice (medical, legal, financial, or otherwise). Check anything important before relying on it.
- Generation can fail or take a long time, and the result won’t always match what you asked for. We may stop a book that fails our quality or safety checks.
- We may change, add, or remove features, models, voices, and limits (for example, monthly story limits) to keep the Service working, safe, and affordable.
5. Free trial
A new account includes a free trial, currently 10 days from when the account was created. On October 23, 2026 we shortened the trial from 30 days: an account created before then has until the earlier of its original 30-day end (counted from October 19, 2026 for accounts created before that date) or November 2, 2026. During the trial you can read every chapter of public books and create one book. Trial books are public. A trial book you don’t use is lost when the trial ends. The trial doesn’t turn into a paid plan automatically, and we don’t ask for a card to start it. After the trial you can keep reading the first chapter of public books and your own books, or subscribe. Details are on the pricing page.
6. Paid plans and automatic renewal
- Automatic renewal. When you subscribe, you authorize us (through our payment processor, Stripe) to charge your payment method the plan’s price, plus any applicable taxes, at the start and then every month until you cancel. Prices and what each plan includes are on the pricing page and in Stripe Checkout before you pay.
- Cancelling. You can cancel anytime in Settings → Billing → Manage billing. Cancellation stops future charges and takes effect at the end of the current billing period; you keep your plan until then.
- Changing plans. Upgrades take effect right away, and you’re charged the prorated difference for the rest of the period. Downgrades take effect at the end of the period.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, Stripe will retry it and email you. Your plan may be marked past due, and if payment still fails, the subscription is cancelled.
- Taxes. Prices don’t include taxes. Where we’re required to collect sales tax, VAT, or similar taxes, we’ll add them, and you’re responsible for any taxes that apply to your purchase.
- Price changes. We may change prices. We’ll tell you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription, and it takes effect at your next renewal after that. If you don’t want to pay the new price, cancel before then.
- Purchases aren’t available in our iOS app. Subscribe on the website.
7. Book credits
Each paid month adds book credits to your balance (Basic 1, Plus 2). One credit creates one book of any kind. Unused credits carry over, up to a maximum of 12. If your subscription ends, your credits are kept but frozen: you can’t use them until you subscribe again. If a book fails to generate, its credit (or your trial book) is returned automatically; retrying that book uses a credit again. Cancelling or deleting a book doesn’t return its credit.
Credits have no cash value. They can’t be sold, transferred, or exchanged for money, and they aren’t refunded. They are lost if you delete your account or if we terminate your account for breaking these Terms.
8. Refunds
Payments are non-refundable, including for partial months and unused credits, except as described in the Refund & cancellation policy or where the law requires. If you think we charged you by mistake, contact support@scribeloom.com before disputing the charge with your bank, so we can fix it quickly.
9. Your content
“Your content” means what you give the Service (topics, story choices, prompts, chat messages, your author name) and the books, outlines, and audio the Service creates for you.
- Ownership. As between you and us, you own your content. To the extent we have any rights in the output created for you, we assign them to you. You may use your books for any lawful purpose, including commercially (for example, publishing them), subject to these Terms and the rights of others.
- No promise of exclusivity or copyright. AI can produce similar output for other people, and material created by AI without enough human authorship may not be protected by copyright. If you publish elsewhere, follow that platform’s rules on AI-generated content. Read-aloud audio is for listening in the Service only.
- License to us. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, display, and narrate your content, and to send it to our service providers, only as needed to run, secure, and improve the Service for you and, for books you make public, to show them to other users. This license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies kept for a limited time in backups and logs (see the Privacy Policy).
- No AI training. We don’t use your content to train AI models, and we don’t sell it.
- Your responsibility. You’re responsible for your requests and for books you make public, and you confirm you have the rights to anything you give us (for example, names or text you include).
10. Public books and reading
Books are public or private. Public books, their titles, descriptions, and your author name can be found and read by anyone through ScribeLoom, including in search. How much of another author’s book you can read depends on your plan. Private books are only for you, and they stay private if your plan ends. Private books need a paid plan; trial books are public. Books marked for adults can only be made public after you confirm they’re for adults (18+), and readers are asked to confirm their age.
When you read other people’s books, you may read and listen to them in the Service for your personal, non-commercial use. Don’t copy, republish, scrape, or download other people’s books, or use them to train AI.
11. Acceptable use
Don’t use the Service to create, publish, or share anything that:
- sexualizes minors in any way, including fictional characters who are, or appear to be, under 18 (we remove it, close the account, and report it where the law requires);
- is sexual content about a real person, or harasses, threatens, defames, or impersonates anyone;
- promotes violence or hatred against people based on protected characteristics, or encourages self-harm;
- gives real-world instructions for weapons capable of mass harm, serious crimes, malware, or attacks on systems;
- infringes someone’s copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights, or shares someone’s personal information without permission;
- is illegal where you live or in the United States, or breaks the usage policies of our AI providers.
And don’t:
- try to break, overload, probe, or get around the Service’s security, limits, paywall, or content filters;
- use bots, scrapers, or automated access other than features we provide, or reverse engineer the Service;
- access other people’s accounts or private books, or resell or sublicense access to the Service;
- use the Service to build a competing product or to train AI models.
12. Copyright and other complaints
If you believe a book on ScribeLoom infringes your copyright or other rights, or is otherwise unlawful or harmful, email support@scribeloom.com (use “Report this book” on the book’s page, or include the book’s link). For a copyright complaint, include: your contact details; the work you say is infringed; the link to the material; a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized by the owner, its agent, or the law; a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you’re the owner or authorized to act for the owner; and your physical or electronic signature. If we remove your book after a complaint, you may reply with a counter-notice explaining why you believe the removal was a mistake. We close the accounts of repeat infringers.
13. Moderation
We don’t review every book, but we may review, hide from search, unpublish, or remove content, and limit or suspend accounts, if we believe content or conduct breaks these Terms or the law, or puts users, us, or others at risk. If you think we made a mistake, email support@scribeloom.com.
14. Ending this agreement
- By you. You can stop using the Service anytime, and you can delete your account in Settings. Deleting your account permanently deletes your books (including public ones), cancels any subscription immediately without a refund for the current period, and forfeits unused credits. You can download your books first.
- By us. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms, if we must for legal reasons, or if we stop offering the Service. If we shut down the Service, we’ll give at least 30 days’ notice, stop future charges, and let you download your books before it closes.
- Sections 9 (license limits), 11, and 15 to 19 survive the end of this agreement.
15. Third-party services
Payments are handled by Stripe, sign-in by Auth0, and our iOS app is distributed by Apple. Their terms apply to your use of their services. We aren’t responsible for third-party services or websites.
16. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
THE SERVICE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND WE DON’T PROMISE THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE WON’T BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SERVICE IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AROSE OR US$100.
Some places don’t allow these exclusions or limits, so some of them may not apply to you. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, or rights you have as a consumer that can’t be waived.
You agree to indemnify us against claims, losses, and costs (including reasonable legal fees) from third parties that arise from your content or your breach of these Terms, to the extent the law allows.
17. Disputes and arbitration
Please read this section carefully. It affects how disputes are resolved.
- Talk to us first. Before filing a claim, email support@scribeloom.com with a description of the problem and what you want. We’ll try to resolve it informally within 60 days.
- Individual arbitration. If we can’t, you and we agree that any dispute relating to these Terms or the Service will be resolved by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its Consumer Arbitration Rules, instead of in court. The Federal Arbitration Act governs this section. The arbitration may be held by video or in the county where you live. Either of us may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court, and either of us may ask a court to stop infringement or misuse of intellectual property.
- No class actions. Claims may only be brought individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, or representative proceeding, and the arbitrator can’t combine claims of more than one person. If this waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim goes to court, not arbitration.
- Opting out. You can opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing support@scribeloom.com from your account email within 30 days after you first accept these Terms, saying you want to opt out of arbitration.
- If you live outside the United States and the law of your country doesn’t allow this section, it doesn’t apply to you, and you keep any mandatory right to bring claims in the courts where you live.
18. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and applicable U.S. federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute not subject to arbitration will be heard in the state or federal courts located in California, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction, except where the law of your country gives you the right to sue in your local courts. California users: the Complaint Assistance Unit of the Division of Consumer Services of the California Department of Consumer Affairs can be reached at 1625 North Market Blvd., Suite N 112, Sacramento, CA 95834, or (800) 952-5210.
19. Changes and general terms
We may update these Terms. For material changes, we’ll tell you at least 30 days in advance by email or in the Service, and we’ll ask you to accept the new Terms before you create books or subscribe again. Other changes take effect when we post them. The date at the top shows when these Terms last changed.
These Terms, with the policies they mention, are the whole agreement between you and us about the Service. If a part is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a term isn’t a waiver. You may not transfer these Terms; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets. We aren’t responsible for delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
